Bantwal: Former soldier killed in hit-and-run accident in Montimar

Bantwal, May 21: A car hit a scooter at Karyapadpu of Montimar near Manchi in the taluk on Monday, killing the rider of the scooter, a former soldier. The car fled the scene after knocking down the scooter.

The deceased is identified as Chidananda Kamath (55), a resident near Sri Rakteshwari Gudi of Puttur Nehru Nagar.

He was traveling from Salethur to Mudipu when the tragedy occurred. It is alleged that the car driver was speeding and driving negligently.

Though Kamath, who was seriously injured, was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru, he succumbed to his injuries. After retiring from the military, he had been working as a security guard at Infosys Mudipu. He was unmarried and lived with his mother.

The car fled the scene after causing the accident. Bantwal traffic police have registered a case and are tracing the car.
