Mangaluru, May 21: In a tragic collision between an Innova car and a container truck early Tuesday morning on Shiradi Ghat, a mother and son died while others sustained serious injuries.
The deceased are identified as Mohammed Shafiq (20), son of Shabbir, a resident of Panemangaluru Bondala, and Shabbir’s wife Safiya (50).
The accident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Sakleshpur rural police station. The car was approaching Kempuhole on Shiradi Ghat when the container truck, coming from the opposite direction, collided with it.
It is reported that among the passengers in the car, three children were seriously injured. The family was returning after attending a relative's reception function in Bengaluru.
A family member of the deceased stated, “There was a wedding reception in Bengaluru on May 20. The family, traveling in the car, also attended the event. They left Bengaluru around midnight to return to Mangaluru. The accident occurred when a truck collided with the car.”
Shafiq was driving the car. He was reportedly studying at the P A Engineering College in Konaje. The mortal remains of both mother and son were shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru, while the other injured individuals are being treated at another hospital in the city.
