Udupi, May 25: Former MLA Raghupati Bhat has been expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for revolting against the party's official candidate and contesting as an independent in the MLC polls.
This disciplinary action includes his relief from all party positions and an expulsion term of six years.
The Karnataka state BJP had earlier issued a notice to Raghupati Bhat, seeking clarification on his decision to contest independently in the southwest graduates' constituency.
The notice, signed by Lingaraj Patil, president of the state-level disciplinary committee, required Bhat to provide an explanation within two days.
