Kundapur, May 28: A man, who was angling for fish, slipped and fell into the Sauparnika river near Kudru of Badakere village in the Byndoor taluk, ultimately drowning.
The deceased, Manju Mogaveera (57), son of Mudoora, resided in Badakere Toplu.
Manju was a professional fisherman who typically engaged in deep-sea fishing. However, due to a cyclone in the Arabian Sea, he refrained from his usual activity. Instead, to keep busy, he would frequent the Sauparnika river, angling for fish to sell.
On Monday evening, as was his habit, Manju informed his wife that he was going to fish in the Sauparnika river near Kudru. When he failed to return late into the evening, his family and locals initiated a search for him. Unfortunately, his body was not found until Tuesday morning, when it was discovered floating in the river. It is suspected that he slipped and fell into the water.
Byndoor police have registered a case in the matter.
