Conference to Promote Religious Harmony in Pakistan

Islamabad, Oct 20 (IANS): A peace conference will be organised in southwest Pakistan's Quetta city to promote religious harmony, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said.

"Religious scholars and other stakeholders from different walks of life from across the country and abroad will be invited to attend the peace conference in Quetta to end sectarian hatred and violence," the official APP news agency quoted Malik as saying. The report, however, did not mention when it will be held.

Some extremists were trying to hamper peace efforts in Balochistan but government will make all efforts to tackle the situation in the province, he told reporters after meeting with the provincial leaders at the Sarawan House.

"We will not allow anti-peace elements to implement their nefarious designs," he said.
