Mangaluru, May 29: Konkani Samskrutika Sangha (R) Mangaluru will stage Konkani Yakshagana play ‘Seetha Kalyana’ on Friday, May 31 at Town Hall here.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, May 29 at Press Club Mangaluru, Manel Gajanan Shenoy said, "On May 31, we are organising Konkani Yakshagana play called ‘Seetha Kalyana’. Konkani Yakshagana is very uncommon and except our Sangha, no one is presenting Yakshagana in Konkani language. On this occasion, we will also be holding the felicitation ceremony of several Yakshagana experts. The team is fully trained and this programme will be successful."

Santaram Shenoy said, "Yakshagana is the tradition of Dakshina Kannada. We wanted to bring changes and hence we introduced it in Konkani language which also brought Konkani speaking communities closer to this art form. It becomes important for us to understand the importance of each character. Translating songs is very difficult although in the past 50-60 years, we have made Konkani Yakshagana songs.

"We are getting good response from the public so far. Prior to the Yakshagana, there will be a stage event where famous personalities such as C V Kamath, CA Nandagopal Shenoy, Prasanth Seth, Narasimha Bhandarkar and Ganesh Palechar will be felicitated," he said.
