Bengaluru, May 30: The situation surrounding incumbent Hassan MP and BJP-JD(S) Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna is reaching a critical point as his arrest is anticipated following the rejection of his anticipatory bail by a special court. Prajwal, accused of sexual harassment and rape involving multiple women, had his bail application quashed by the Special Court for Elected Representatives.
Prajwal, who is currently in Munich, Germany, is scheduled to return to India on May 30, with an expected arrival in the city on May 31. Sources indicate that Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials plan to arrest him upon his arrival at Kempegowda International Airport. His departure to Germany occurred shortly after he cast his vote on May 27. Subsequent to his departure, videos allegedly showing Prajwal involved in sexual harassment were widely circulated on social media.
The case has also implicated other family members. Prajwal's father, H D Revanna, has already been arrested and released on bail. Prajwal’s mother, Bhavani Revanna, is also under scrutiny, with her bail application due for review on May 31, coinciding with Prajwal's anticipated return.
The special court for elected representatives issued an arrest warrant for Prajwal on May 18, following a request from the SIT. Additionally, Prajwal has been expelled from his political party, Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S), in light of the scandal.
