Bengaluru, May 31: The monsoon, often referred to as the lifeline of India, made its entrance into Kerala on Thursday, May 30, two days earlier than usual. Typically, the monsoon arrives in Kerala on June 1.

The Remal cyclone's influence has caused monsoon clouds to shift towards North East India. With the early arrival in Kerala, there are forecasts indicating that the monsoon will reach coastal and south interior Karnataka by June 2. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall for the region this year.

Southwest clouds, a result of the Remal cyclone that wreaked havoc in West Bengal and Bangladesh, have shifted towards the northeast part of the country. Expectations are for heavy rains in the next four to five days.

Kerala has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days, surpassing the usual May precipitation levels. Typically, monsoon rains commence in northeast India by June 5, but this year's early arrival marks a departure from the norm.
