Udupi, Jun 1: The office of corporate relations at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), in partnership with Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, organised a comprehensive two-day clinical competency development programme for Philips Engineers on May 31 and June 1.
The programme aimed to enhance the clinical knowledge and skills of 15 engineers from the Philips Innovation Centre, Bengaluru, specifically in the domain of Hospital Patient Monitoring (HPM). The event featured a combination of theoretical classroom sessions and practical hands-on experience with state-of-the-art monitoring devices.
A gathering comprising dignitaries from MAHE and participants from Philips attended the inaugural meeting. Dr Harish Kumar S, director of corporate relations at MAHE, welcomed the gathering. Following the welcome, Dr Vinod Nayak, professor of the forensic department at KMC and the programme coordinator gave an insightful overview of the planned sessions.
During his inaugural address, Dr Sharath Rao, pro vice-chancellor – health sciences at MAHE, underlined the importance of such initiatives. He said, 'In the rapidly evolving healthcare technology field, it is essential for engineers to keep up with clinical applications. Programmes like these bridge the gap between technical expertise and clinical practice, ensuring that advancements in medical technologies are both innovative and applicable.
Dr Narayana Sabhahit, pro vice-chancellor for technology and science at MAHE, emphasised the importance of the programme, stating that 'the future lies in integrating technology with medicine.' He elaborated that by providing engineers with a thorough understanding of clinical requirements "we are paving the way for transformative healthcare breakthroughs."
Dr Raviraja, COO designate & director, planning and monitoring, MAHE emphasised on significance of hospital patient monitoring systems and on the need for remote patient monitoring.
Several dignitaries from MAHE graced the event, including, Dr Padmaraj Hegde, dean of KMC, Manipal, Dr Anand Venugopal, COO, KMC, Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of KMC, Manipal, Dr Naveen Salins, associate dean – research at KMC, Manipal, Dr Sagar, department of critical care, KMC and Abhimanyu Pradhan, assistant professor at MCHP.
Dr Harish Kumar S, director, corporate relations at MAHE, concluded the programme with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to participants and organisers for their contributions. He acknowledged the exceptional enthusiasm and engagement of Philips engineers and MAHE staff, setting a high standard for future competency development programmes. The partnership with Philips, a leader in healthcare technology, is expected to continue, with the aim of advancing healthcare through technological advancements.
