Mangaluru, June 1: KPCC working president and MLC Manjunath Bhandary has taken a strong stance against Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja's recent confrontation with the Belthangady police, shedding light on the issue during a media briefing.

Bhandary emphasised the paramount importance of upholding the constitution and refraining from vigilantism, echoing sentiments shared during discussions with Home Minister Parameshwarappa. He stated, "The high court has clearly said that no one should take law into their own hands regarding MLA Harish Poonja's case. If we as leaders don't respect the Constitution, then what can we expect from the public?"

Bhandary also highlighted the Congress party's earnest approach towards the upcoming elections, particularly in the graduates and Teachers' constituencies. He elaborated on the meticulous organizational efforts, appointing leaders from wards to booths and expressed confidence in the potential victories of Ayyanur Manjunath and K K Manjunath.

Bhandary announced the appointment of Gafur and Ivan D'Souza to oversee the election process in the twin districts, underscoring the collective effort of the party to secure success. He said, "The entire missionary has worked for this election, and victory for the Congress party is inevitable."

Addressing the media's concerns about the Belthangady MLA's case and the Kankanady mosque issue, Bhandary underscored the significance of respecting due process and maintaining order. He expressed discontent over Poonja's remarks against the police and discussed dialogues with mosque representatives regarding the suo motu case. Bhandary urged the police department to ensure law enforcement, especially in education-centric regions like Dakshina Kannada.

Commenting on the police's handling of the cases and the sand mafia issue, Bhandary hinted at potential lapses and assured that concerns have been conveyed to senior party members. He mentioned plans to address these matters during forthcoming meetings with district officials.

Regarding the absence of Dinesh Gundurao from the elections, Bhandary clarified that Gundurao's unavailability was due to his absence from town, necessitating the involvement of Madhu Bangarappa.

Harish Kumar, Ashok Kumar, MA Gafur, Innayat Ali, Ashwin Kumar Rai, Lukman, MS Mohammad, Kishan Hegde, Sadashiv Ullal, Mamatha, Shalet Pinto and others were present.
