Bengaluru, Jun 2: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, sitting minister N S Boseraju and Mangaluru’s former MLC Ivan D’Souza are among the eight candidates announced by the ruling Congress party for State Legislative Council polls from the State Legislative Assembly.
The other five Congress candidates are: Vasanth Kumar, K Govindaraj, Bilkis Bano, Jagdev Guttedar and Basanagouda Badarli.
However, seven candidates are from the Assembly constituency, Basanagouda Badarli is the candidate for the forthcoming by-election.
The announcements were made by AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal in New Delhi on Sunday.
C T Ravi is BJP candidate
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP has named former minister C T Ravi, State BJP General Secretary N Ravikumar and sitting MLC M G Mule as its candidates.
Based on the party strength, Congress can get seven candidates elected, while the BJP can have three candidates. K Govindaraju is the chief minister's political secretary, and N S Boseraju is a minister.
Basanagouda has been chosen as the Congress candidate for the by-election following the resignation of former chief minister from BJP, Jagadish Shettar. Shettar had joined Congress before the assembly elections and lost as a party candidate, after which he was made an MLC. However, he resigned before the Lok Sabha polls and rejoined the BJP to contest as a party candidate from Belagavi.
Badarli has been chosen to fill the vacancy in the by-election.
