Bahrain: K S C open throwball tournament 2024 witnesses nail-biting grand finale

Bahrain, Jun 2: Eleven seven-a-side throwball teams, each comprising 5 women and 2 men from Karnataka hinterland, who vied with each other the past 10 days after dusk and rocked the terrace floor in a keen competition concluded the grand finale of the KSC Open Throwball Tournament 2024 amid a sea of emotions on Thursday, May 23 at Karnataka Social Club premises Terrace Floor.

There was so much mayhem and euphoria on the terrace of Karnataka Social Club building among the participating throwball teams bitterly in competition, that even the traffic moving on the adjacent road came to a halt wondering but to listen to the jubilant shouts ringing in the air from the enthusiastic spectators watching the throwball match.

An awesome, fiery, fun-filled tournament indeed, complete with keen competition among the participants, humorous commentary, great fun, glitter and glamour and typical ambience of the likes that never was seen before in the annals of KSC history. It concluded with the Grand Finale finals on a befitting Thursday evening of May 23 with two teams that reached the doors of the finals, METALCO KSC JEWELS pitted against BAHRAIN WARRIORS ‘S’ and a cozy get-together thereafter.

Hats off to the main organisers of the competition under the expert leadership of Vinay Sequeira, the sports-secretary-elect and unstinted support and encouragement from president-elect Anand Lobo, who worked it out all with their team members gathering 11 amazing mixed teams, all of them in the fray giving it all the fire they had all along, to participate spiritedly in the KSC Open Throwball Competition chastely laid out for them.

The teams were divided into two Groups, A and B, having 5 and 6 teams respectively to play the league matches.The rules and regulations were set up by Vinay Sequeira, accepted by all the team Captains and the tournament stables set sumptuously on the terrace of KSC building premises under flood-lights – complete with all its requirements of throwballs, nets, and other necessary requirements for the entire tournament, most of which flown-in specially from India – not to forget, even the larger-than-normal size colourful trophies!

The terrace floor of the Club was so aptly laid out for the tournament that it was a great pompous arena for the spectators to relax and watch with awe, let alone for the participating tea skilled neutral umpires were recruited for the tournament along with the linesmen needed and they did their task with all the precision that it asked for, for the successful conduct of the tournament concluding with the grand finale

Fr Darel Fernandes, the Asst parish priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church was the chief guest, graced the grand finale tournament and later for a get-together with all those present. In his address to the gathering he was delightfully narrating the final match stating the winning team rose like a Phoenix from ashes – an apt description of the final game that went into three sets! Surely, this was a match that rocked!

The finals match saw a spectacular unforgettable performance by the two teams, Metalco KSC Jewels and Bahrain Warriors ‘S’ that saw waves of throws between the teams like a slugfest. The winning team Metalco KSC Jewels rose from their first set loss to come back with gusto in the next two sets to bag the larger-than-life trophy!

The spectators were spellbound and glued to their chairs as the throwball made waves between the teams with every throw from one end to the other. Anand Lobo from his commentator’s box kept everyone’s spirits alive and kicking and the match rolling every step with his extra-ordinary energetic rattling comments from the start to the end of the finale match. It was fun galore all the way and it was a match to remember for a long long time.
