AIADMK Leading in Tamil Nadu Civic Polls


Chennai, Oct 21 (IANS): The ruling AIADMK was leading in many places as per initial trends for the Tamil Nadu civic polls as counting of votes proceeded Friday.

Vote counting is on at 822 places across the state, with the two-phased polls having been held Oct 17 and 19.

AIADMK is leading in Coimbatore and Tiruppur municipal corporations while the opposition DMK is leading in places like Mettur, Vedaranyam and Arakkonam.

The elections saw all the major political parties in the state - AIADMK, DMK, Congress - going it alone while the second largest party in the state assembly, DMDK, fought the elections with two Communist parties.

The polls will elect around 112,000 representatives and come nearly six months after the state assembly elections.

On Thursday the AIADMK won the by-poll held in Tiruchirapalli West constituency.

    Normally in Tamilnadu only Ruling parties win in By-elections. So also this one. But any Ruliing party should work for betterment of state. This is the only expection from public.
