Mangaluru: Orientation programme for first-PUC students held at St Agnes PU College

Mangaluru, Jun 3: The orientation programme for the first-PUC students was held on June 1, at St Agnes PU College in the college auditorium.

The programme comprised of separate sessions for both parents and students, beginning with a prayer song seeking God’s blessings. Prathista, from the department of Biology, gracefully hosted the event and welcomed the dignitaries. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was done by the chief guest Sr Dr Maria Roopa, principal, Sr Norine D’Souza, vice principal, Sr Janet Sequeira, dean for Science, Supriya Shenoy and a student representative.

During the student session, toppers and centum scorers of I PUC annual exam – 2023-24 from each stream were felicitated by Sr Dr Maria Roopa, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions. Science topper – Arengza Mendonca from JEE – NEET Integrated batch, Commerce topper- Leeshal from BEBA and Arts topper and Niriksha from HEPP shared their experiences and insights on excelling with the right motivation and hard work.The felicitation ceremony was hosted by Teena from the department of commerce. Sr Dr Maria Roopa congratulated the achievers and asked the students to embrace the challenges, stay positive, and strive for excellence in academics.

Principal Sr Norine D’Souza, in her address, encouraged students to seize every opportunity for personal growth and be confident to face any challenges in present and future. Students were then directed to their respective classroom where further orientation was given by the class mentors.

The parents session commenced with a warm welcome extended by Ramya H, HoD, Department of Mathematics.

Parents received valuable insights from Dr Avinash Kamath, psychiatrist, KMC Hospital, Mangaluru on parenting in digital age emphasizing on new generation concerns which included the common mental health problems faced by adolescents. He concluded his session by giving tips on boosting the mental health of children. Jacintha Olivera, parent of Jane Olivera from SEBA (22-24 batch) shared her experience on how the college helped her daughter to shine academically as well as inculcate values for life.

Principal addressed the parents emphasizing the role of parents as a support system in shaping the life of their ward.

This was followed by an enriching session by Vividya faculty, Dr Gaurav to all the science students and their parents. Hostelites and their parents were introduced to the rules and regulations of the hostel and it’s amenities by Sr Sannidhi, the hostel warden. The programme commenced with a vote of thanks by the host.

Ramya, Teena, and Prathista served as the convenors of the programme, orchestrating its success with grace and diligence.
