CBI Continues Assessing Jagan's Palatial House

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday continued assessing the cost of YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's palatial house at Lotus Pond in Jubilee Hills here as part its investigations into his alleged illegal assets.

For the second consecutive day, CBI officials went around the sprawling house to evaluate its market value. They were accompanied by officials from the Income Tax department and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), CBI sources said.

It could not be confirmed if CBI has completed its task or will continue assessing the MP's residence Saturday.

The officials visited every room in the four-storey house located on 6,000 sq yards with a built-up area of over 80,000 sq ft.

The son of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is said to have purchased the land for Rs.25 crore and spent an equal amount to build the house, which also serves as the office of YSR Congress party office.

The officials assessed the value of the land, the construction, furniture and other interiors. They also video recorded all the rooms, halls and the other portions to collect evidence.

The CBI had searched the premises two months ago while launching the probe into Jagan's assets at the instance of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The court had directed the CBI to conduct the probe after a state minister Shankar Rao and some leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) moved the court, alleging that Jagan amassed huge wealth by misusing the power when his father was chief minister from 2004 to 2009.

Meanwhile, GHMC officials said they had not issued Occupancy Certificate for the house. They said since the application for OC was made without completing the construction, it was not issued.

The civic authorities issue OC after completion of the construction to certify that building has not deviated from the approved plan. The GHMC officials submitted all the relevant documents relating to the house to the CBI.
