Udupi, Jun 5: In a dramatic turn of events in Perampalli on the outskirts of Udupi city, a school bus driver suffered a heart attack while driving. The driver, Melvin, a resident of Karje, managed to steer the bus towards the left embankment, avoiding a potentially catastrophic collision with an oncoming tree. This quick action averted a major disaster, saving the lives of several students on board.
The bus, belonging to a private school in Brahmavar, was en route when the incident occurred. Melvin's prompt response ensured that the bus came to a safe stop, though four to five students sustained minor injuries.
Following the heart attack, Melvin collapsed and was immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital for treatment. He is currently receiving medical care at KMC Hospital in Manipal.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Manipal Police Station. The driver’s act in the face of a life-threatening medical emergency has been lauded by the locals.
