Mangaluru: Environment Day celebrated by St Agnes PU College

Mangaluru, Jun 7: Abhaya, the women’s forum of St Agnes PU College celebrated World Environment Day on June 6.

Praveen, senior assistant director, department of horticulture, Mangaluru taluk was invited as the resource person. Praveen highlighted the importance of organic farming and gave pointers on how to improve the fertility of soil. Modernization, burgeoning population, and rampant use of plastics has led to a decline in quality of the soil. Vermicompost contains nutrients and microorganisms that enrich the soil and is excellent for organic farming.

The principal Sr Norine D’Souza, faculty and the convenor of Abhaya Dr Tressie Menezes were present for the programme.

Fathima Rawha compered, welcomed and rendered the vote of thanks smoothly.
