Girl 'Air-Born' on Delhi-Toronto Flight!

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS): A passenger Saturday gave birth to a girl on board a 14-hour Air India flight from Delhi to Toronto with the help of a woman doctor travelling on the plane. Officials said it was a first for the national carrier!

"Kuljeet Kaur delivered a girl on our flight AI 187 from Delhi to Toronto today (Saturday). The mother and child are in perfect condition," an Air India official told IANS.

The plane was flying over Kazakhstan at the time of delivery.

"Dr.Sandhya, who was also travelling on the same flight, supervised the medical procedures. Our cabin crew and flight attendants were also present, and they are also capable of overseeing medical conditions," he said.

The official said after the condition of the pregnant woman worsened, the flight commander had planned to divert the aircraft and land in Dubai.

"But before the diversion could took place, she had delivered the baby," he said.

"This is the first time a baby was delivered on the national carrier. The flight is continuing its course to Toronto," he added.

Dear all, one small clarification, Is the baby is 7 months old or 9months old ? because Airlines will not allowed the pregant woman to travel above 7 months without their proper medical certificate. and also travelling 9months is impossible. This terms and conditions applying only for the rich people and also USA passengers. May be the doctor is her relative good . Keep it up. very Lucky baby.GOD BLESS HER. anyway the mother who deliver the baby is in good health is more important.

    Very lucky baby.

Congrats to Dr. Sandhya and the fortunate parents of the baby girl, please note other pregnant women who are travelling by Air, the take off fear will create pressure on pregnant women and will lead to this kind of happenings. It was fortunate that Dr. Sandhya was there as a Goddess.

NOW how the hell did the air india officials at the check in counter allow her to board the flight. was she highly influential. or was the check in crew bribed. my sister last year was not allowed to fly because she was in her seventh month. who is bothered anyways right. it happens only in india. thats why i love my india.jai hind.

There is a rule that a woman, pregnant more than seven months, is not allowed to fly. To prove this she should present a doctor's certificate. Was the rule adhered to ?

Glad that the procedure took place successfully and thanks to the doctor and lucky enough that she was there. Taking such risk does not always end up positively.

As one reader asked, we must see where the birth will be registered.
