Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 9: Monsoon rains have intensified across the coastal districts of Karnataka. On Saturday, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasargod districts experienced incessant rainfall, a trend that is expected to continue for several days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for June 9.

In Mangaluru, heavy rains caused artificial flooding in Kottara, Kottara Chowki, and Bejai, leading to traffic disruptions. Subramanya, Sullia, Ainekidu, Kollamogru, Jalsoor, Kadaba, Bellare, Beltangady, Ujire, Dharmasthala, Charmady, Madyantharu, Venur, Kokkada, Nelyadi, Puttur, Kumbra, Uppinangady, Ilanthila, Perne, Karaya, Kalleri, Suratkal, Mulky, Ullal, Kanyana, Vittal, Manjeshwar, Bayaru, Bantwal, B.C. Road, and Kalladka also received significant rainfall.

Autorickshaw damaged in tree fall at Kundapur 

In Kundapur and Byndoor taluks, many houses were damaged due to the heavy rains and high-velocity winds. Houses belonging to Laxmi Ganiga of Kody in Kundapur taluk, Muthu of Gujjadi, Shakunthala Shetty of Shankaranarayana village, and Jyoti of Hosangadi village were severely damaged. Lightning struck the house of Gulabi Shetty, burning all electrical equipment. A huge tree uprooted near the AVN building on the main road of Kundapur, falling on an autorickshaw. Another tree fell on a moving autorickshaw within Hombadi gram panchayat limits near Tekkatte, causing minor injuries to the driver, Shankara, and completely damaging the vehicle.

Two houses in Bhagat Nagara of Hosadu village, Kundapur, are on the verge of collapsing. The compound wall of Vasudeva Kharvi’s house collapsed, causing cracks in the walls. Concerned officials from Hosadu gram panchayat visited the site and took preventive measures.
