Udupi, Jun 10: Late Danti Award 2023, was awarded to Vinisha Rodrigues for her book Ettinagadi Express on June 9, at Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Kakkunje.
Vinisha Rodrigues’ books Ettinagadi Express-2, had been selected for Late Danti Award 2023, presented by Udupi Catholic Sabha for Christian writers in Kannada language. The award consists of Rs 25,000 along with a memento.
On receiving the honour, Vinisha Rodrigues said, “The youth today are showing more interest in social networking sites and the number of people who buy books and read them is becoming scarce. She said that young people should be encouraged to buy and read books.”
Inaugurating the 2023-24 annual general meeting and association of Catholic Sabha Udupi region held at Kakkunje Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Fr Denis D’Sa said, “In today's competitive world, the thoughts of a leader should be to seek change in the society, and the organization needs to be led with new experiments and ideas. When criticisms are received positively, good leadership can grow.”
Clifford Lobo, forest conservation officer, chief guest of the programme, said, “Christian community service should be the first priority and not only service, but more and more youths should pay attention to government services in the coming days.”
During the meeting, Olivia D’Mello, secretary, presented the 2023-24 annual report, Gerald Rodriguez, treasurer, presented the 2023-24 accounts. The report of Manasa Institute was presented by Henry Menezes, president, and the report of Sashakth Community Service Trust was presented by Alice Rodriguez, secretary.
Ronald Almeida, president-elect welcomed the gathering and Olivia D’Mello, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Harshit Fernandes hosted the programme. Santosh Cornelio, president Catholic Sabha Udupi region presided over the programme.
At the same time prize distribution ceremony of diocese level Denis D’Silva Essay competition was also held. The prizes were distributed by Fr Denis D’Sa.
John D’Silva, former president of Udupi District Small-scale Industries Association, Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general of Udupi diocese, Mary D'Souza, immediate past president of Catholic Sabha Udupi region, Ronald Almeida, president-elect, Solomon Alvaris, vice president, co-ordinator Luis D'Souza, Leslie Cornelio, Rosie Quadras, zonal president, Juliet D'Souza, Wilson D'Almeida, Wilson Mascarenhas and Shanti Pereira were present.
