Mangaluru, Jun 11: A provocative statement referring to Pakistan sparked tensions during a BJP celebration near an auto stand, located a few kilometers before the mosque at Boliyar, said city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal.
The BJP was celebrating Prime Minister Modi's swearing-in on Sunday. During the procession, near the auto-rickshaw stand and a few kilometers before the mosque, some participants raised provocative slogans, saying, "You people belong to Pakistan and the arrival of Modi has scared you." This statement triggered the incident.
Due to the provocative slogans near the auto-rickshaw stand, people gathered near the mosque. After the procession dispersed, some individuals on two-wheelers returned to the masjid and celebrated in front of it. Later, they were chased and stabbed.
The president of the mosque has filed a case against certain youths who shouted provocative slogans in front of the mosque and abused people standing outside. Arrests have been made under sections 143, 147, 148, 153A, 504, 506, and 149 of the IPC.
Three teams have been formed to investigate the case. Six persons have been arrested in connection with the Boliyar stabbing case. Initially, five arrests were made, and a recent arrest of Abboobakar brings the total to six.
Mohammad Shakir (28), Abdul Razak (40), Aboobakar Siddique (35), Sawad (18), and Monu alias Hafeez (24) are the arrested accused and Abboobakar Sarvan, the individual who allegedly carried out the stabbing and is a known rowdy sheeter, is still absconding.
The two persons who were attacked are reported to be out of danger.
