Udupi, Oct 23: Udupi DC Dr M T Reju visited the Paadoor ISPRL unit in Majoor village, near Kaup, on Sunday October 23 and urged the immediate resolution of problems faced by the local people.

"Women face problems from labourers coming in from outside Karnataka, and the issue must be dealt with in an appropriate manner," he said.

He also spoke of the need for alternate roads, the absence of which is forcing people to use longer routes.

On the issue of compensation, he said that it should match the market value. "Also, victim’s families should be given jobs,” he urged.

In reply, Veerabhadra, officer of the company, said that priority will be given to all these problems. “Basic needs also will be given importance. Shirva-Shanthigudde-Majoor road will be repaired by May to serve as an alternate road. Action will be taken to see that women are not facing problems from out-of-state labourers. Basic facilities will be provided in the village,” he assured.

On the occasion, the DC also visited the unit and appreciated the work there.

To a query on the complaint that an unscientific survey has been carried out with regard to Padoor-Thokur pipeline project, Veerabhadra said that another survey will be carried out soon. He added that the new survey would ensure that as many structures as possible will be retained.

Katapady Shankar Poojary, Devadas Hebbar and Arun Shetty Padoor were present on the occasion.

Thanks to Mr. Veerabhadra who has agreed to carry out a fresh survey eventhough under pressure from the local politicians. I am one of the victims who is supposed to loose my house as the pipe line is expected to run right under my house. Hope many more people will get relief as the earlier survey carried out by the Kolkata based company has never bothered to do it with minimal damage to the existing structures.

Normally the projects of this size must be studied throughly keeping in mind the environmental impact, socio economical impact on the locals as well as flora and fauna. necessary steps must be taken to reduce the problems of the locals and if there is is any problems.. they must be compensated properly which can include proper re location, employment or financial support. None of these seem to be followed by all the 3 major projects in twin districts.

Corporate world never look in to the welfare of the locals when they are venturing projects. But DC, himself is an District Magistrate and has every right bring the said company to it's kneels!Actions should be forced by DC as said not urged. All necessary discrepancies which are noted by DC and the complaint of the local looked in to with a serious thought.
