Mangalore: Creativity, Innovation Triumph at 'Goodu Deepa' Contest

Mangalore, Oct 23: The ‘Goodu Deepa’ contest organized for the 12th year by Namma Kudla channel at Sri Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple was a magnificent event featuring attractive and special kinds of lanterns on Friday October 23.

The competition was organized in three categories – traditional, modern, and special. In each category, the first prize winner bagged a gold medal. Consolation prizes were also given in each category.

DK district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, ZP CEO Dr K N Prakash, Karnataka assembly deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat, and Canara Bank DGM Dasayya were the chief guests.

Namma Kudla also honoured Dr Shantaram Shetty, vice-chancellor, Nitte University, by conferring on him the ‘Namma Tuluver’ award at the valedictory ceremony.

‘Namma Kudla 2011’ award was bestowed on dance maestro Master Vittal and the ‘Bala Prathibhe’ award was given to artiste Prihali.

Prizes were distributed to contest winners and former union minister Janardhan Poojary presided. Director Mohan Karkera, Leelaksha Karkera, and Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli  were present.

    Colourfull Goodu Deepa,s. But very disappointed to see the person, I think ZP CEO Dr. Prakash (still in dark-not enlightened from the Indian culture)with shoes on and doing Puja or aarthi to Tulsi at temple. How Nammakudla organizers allowed this man to do that. Just for the Photo?
