Speaker U T Khader announces new projects for Mangaluru constituency

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (VP)

Mangaluru, Jun 14: The speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, U T Khader, discussed new projects focused on drinking water facilities, electrification, and road expansion in the Mangaluru (Ullal) constituency.

Addressing the media on Friday, June 14, at Circuit House, Khader stated, "During the elections, I promised the people that my priority would be providing drinking water facilities for everyone in the Ullal constituency. Water is a crucial resource for human life, and this issue must be addressed regardless of who is in power. Previously, we had to bring water from Thumbe dam and later added pipelines, but these pipelines were insufficient. Therefore, we planned for a separate water source to serve Sajipa and Konaje. The first phase of this work has been completed, and we have also installed a 70-lac litre water tank. To carry out this work, we have received the necessary funds.

"So far, we have planned to invest Rs 249 crore. For the pipeline connection from Konaje to Mudipu, we have invested Rs 180 crore, and for Ullal, Kotekar, and Someshwar, Rs 193 crore has been allocated.

"In addition, the roads from Thokkottu to Mudipu have received grants, and we will be constructing a six-lane route at a cost of Rs 25 crore. This work will commence as soon as possible.

"A total of Rs 50 crore has been set aside for other emergency purposes. Regarding electricity, we have created several subdivisions. When the load is higher, we will seek alternative options. The 33 kV subdivisions will be merged with the 110 kV subdivisions. We will also be constructing Abbaka Bhavan and Byari Bhavan very soon," he said.

Regarding the resolution of problems in flood-prone areas, Khader remarked, "The ocean varies from area to area, making it easy to build structures but difficult to maintain them. We should always plan with maintenance in mind. The government should ensure funds are provided at least once every two years for maintenance. The waves in Mangaluru are unpredictable, and even the Marine Drive of Mumbai requires yearly maintenance by placing stones to stop the waves."

When asked about flood relief funds, Khader said, "Dangerous areas should be inspected, and people should be relocated immediately. However, in Mangaluru, there is no danger zone, and the ocean waves are very unpredictable, making little difference. There are two types of solutions: emergency and temporary. The emergency funds are with the district commissioner, who must collaborate with the port department. They often focus on legal aspects rather than helping people, causing problems for everyone."

Good to hear that Thokkottu to Mudipu have received grants and they will be constructing a six-lane route. Hopefully they can develop that area (Thokottu, Derlakatte, Assaigoli, Konaje, Mudipu etc.) as IT and ITes zone and have lot of IT companies. Hoping lot of employment opportunities would be available.
