Bangalore: With Over One Crore Commuters, Namma Metro Becomes Destination in Itself

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 24: There is just one expression on the face of every Bangalorean who travelled in the ‘Namma Metro’ – a look of pride. With just three days since it was opened to public, travel via metro trains has become the most sought after means of transport in the city overnight.

It is learnt that, in just three days, more than one crore commuters have used the metro train service.  Seeing this over-whelming response, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to extend the service up till 11.30 pm.

The officials, expecting a heavy rush on weekends, have also increased the frequency of the trains to 100. Several commuters, along with their families, were seen standing in queues over the weekend, just to enjoy the Metro train ride.

A BMRCL official said that revenue of more than Rs 4 lac was earned over the weekend. The official added that about 75,000 people made use of the Metro train service on Saturday October 22.

With people thronging to the Metro stations in large numbers, MG Road, here was packed with families on Sunday October 23. Namma Metro now seems to be a popular weekend attraction for families from across the city. While the experience was a fun-filled one for many, there were a few who complained of the huge crowd being a turn-off factor. Speaking to the media, one commuter said, “The train was extremely crowded and there was a lot of pushing and shoving.”

Also, the BMRCL officials have announced that they would hold extra services on Sundays and Diwali holidays expecting a huge passenger rush.

I am sure the number of commuters during those 3 days should read as 1 lakh and not 1 crore as stated in the article. May be a printing error. All the same, it is good to see the people are enjoying the new facilities.

The authorities should not run metro trains crowded as we see in the file pictures. It is very dangerous as the project is new and there could be some or other faculties which can cause great difficulties for people. If there is faulty power supply then people cannot open the doors and cannot breath may result in suffocation. All these people are not commuters but want to enjoy the metro circus which is first time in their life time. The real commuters may be less and the management may suffer losses if they do not cover all important directions Bangalore. They should screen every passenger who enter the metro with luggage and bags.

Good to know. Please ensure Kannnada is prominent in Boards/Announcements/tickets of Namma Metro.
Local language should override global language. Do not lose our language/culture for the sake of migrants to the city. They should learn our language.

Pls someone call that reporter in Suvarna News 24X7, who blamed 2nd day itself, metro is running empty empty. the media like this (suvarna channel) should not be encouraged by people. They given a big news trail as travelling in metro is danger, no good service, no toilet, no drinking water all those blame game shows that they & their channel reserved for show bad news, crime news, ugly film trails etc. whatever the good they never show.

With all the hype given,Metro ride should not remain as only a weekend getaway for people taking joy ride like the roller coaster in the fun parks, the one and only reason and the idea behind introducing Metro is to reduce traffic congestion on Bangalore roads. Hope people realize and use it regularly to commute between the work palace and home leaving behind their bikes and cars. We shall wait and see?
