Beltangady, Jun 17: On Sunday, tourists crowded the Somanakadu valley area on Charmadi Ghat, where waterfalls and other natural springs are located. Many visitors parked their vehicles in a manner that obstructed other motorists, creating dangerous conditions.

The picturesque beauty of Charmadi Ghat attracts many visitors. The small waterfalls and the misty, cloudy weather offer a perfect setting for enjoying the natural beauty and cool climate. However, Charmadi Ghat, which suffered a major landslide during the 2019 monsoon, is not safe. Additionally, there is the danger of wild elephants. In some bends, motorists cannot see oncoming vehicles due to thick fog. Amidst this, the wayward parking of vehicles by tourists is inviting danger.

On Sunday, there was heavy traffic on Charmadi Ghat. Although the police drove many tourists away, they often returned once the police vehicle was out of sight. Tourists also engaged in dangerous activities such as taking selfies, doing photoshoots on slippery areas, and attempting to get into the waterfalls. There needs to be strict prohibition on tourist vehicle parking on the ghat to avert any major tragedy.
