Pakistan Confers Honour on Nusrat Bhutto


Islamabad, Oct 25 (IANS): Pakistan has conferred its highest civil honour, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, on Nusrat Bhutto who died Sunday. Her husband Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged in 1979, while her daughter Benazir was assassinated in 2007.

Nusrat Bhutto died in Dubai Sunday after protracted illness. She was 82.

She was also given the title of 'Mother of democracy', reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

The citation in her honour said: "No tribute can do justice to Begum Nusrat Bhutto, the mother of democracy. We salute her courage, her enumerable sacrifices, her tenacity she has suffered. We the people, live with freedom and dignity. What a great family, what a way to live and to die."
