Udupi: Gang attempts to murder barber with swords, damage vehicles

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Jun 18: Charan U (18) from Puttur village, Udupi, who works as a barber at a salon, was involved in a violent incident on the night of June 15. While working, Charan received a call from Abhi Katapadi, who asked to meet near China Town Biryani Point in Puttur to discuss a person named Shabari.

Charan, accompanied by his friends Nagraj, Karthik, and Ranjhu, set out for the meeting, with Charan riding pillion on Sujan's bike and his friends following on a scooter (KA20EY5136). Upon reaching Gudangadi, just past the Biryani Point, they encountered Praveen, Abhi Katapadi, Deshraj, Shabari, and two unidentified individuals armed with swords.

The assailants, with the intent to kill, lunged at Charan and his friends. Forced to abandon their vehicles, Charan and his friends fled as beer bottles were hurled at them. The incident occurred around 8:45 PM.

Later, at 10:00 PM, Charan and his friends returned to retrieve their bike and scooter, only to find Sujan's bike severely damaged, resulting in a loss of approximately Rs. 25,000. Sujan's scooter was also found pushed aside and damaged.

The motive behind the attack appears to be an old grudge, as Praveen and the other attackers targeted Charan due to a previous altercation. A case has been registered at the Udupi town police station under crime number 108/2024. The charges include sections 143, 148, 427, 307, and 149 of the IPC, along with Section 27 of the Arms Act.
