Udupi, Jun 18: A case of fish theft at Karkala fish market has been brought to the attention of the city police station. According to reports, Anjal fish worth approximately Rs 6,500 was stolen from the market, as reported by fish trader Mala.

The alleged perpetrator, Suraj Jain, was identified in connection with the theft. It is reported that Suraj Jain sold the stolen fish to Vishal Poojary, a local florist, for a mere Rs 140.

Upon investigation, Vishal Poojary admitted to purchasing the stolen fish at a significantly lower price when called to the police station. To resolve the matter, Vishal agreed to compensate fish trader Mala for the full value of the stolen fish, amounting to Rs 6,500. Initially, Vishal made a payment of Rs 3,000, with the remaining Rs 3,500 to be paid by June 27, in the presence of the police.

This incident has brought renewed attention to ongoing theft issues at the fish market, with traders urging authorities to thoroughly investigate this case and take appropriate action.
