Dubai: Three Indians Accused of Posing as CIDs, Stealing Car


Dubai, Oct 26 (Emirates 24 x 7): Three Indians who are accused of impersonating as CID officers and robbing a compatriot using force before making away with his car, are standing trial in Dubai Criminal Court.

The accused an Indian engineer RAR, 27; OAB, 28, worker; KSA, 35, salesman; allegedly intercepted Srino Babu at around 2am on December 2, 2010. Babu, 33, was on his way to drop his Sri Lankan friend to his home, when he noticed a Mitsubishi Pajero signalling him to stop in Al Satwa area.

As Babu pulled over, four people who introduced themselves as CID officers got into his car - Mitsubishi Lancer, he told the court.

"They asked for our ID cards. As my friend showed them his, they looked at it and asked him to leave the place. They asked me for my wallet. One of them took Dh500 and my labour card. They also snatched my mobile phone and said they were heading to the police station. When I asked one of them for their ID card, he slapped me.

“As we reached Al Karama, they dropped me and asked me to meet them at the police station. When I said they have taken my money, one of them gave me Dh100 and asked me to take a taxi. I did go to the police station immediately but could not file a complaint as the car’s documents were not with me and also the police asked about the witness. So the following day, I reported the incident,” he testified.

His 30-year-old Sri Lankan friend Bimel repeated the same testimony and said that before leaving he saw the accused beat up his friend in the car.“After about an hour my friend came to my house and said he was assaulted by the four men who also took his cash and mobile. We filed a complaint together at the police station," he told the court.

Policeman Khaled Shehab, testified that Sharjah Police arrested RAR on April 13, 2011, for a car theft case. Searching his house police confiscated documents of Babu's Mitsubishi Lancer.

The accused confessed  to stealing the car from Al Satwa area with the help of three others and led the police to them.

The victim and his friend identified the four accused.
