Mangalore: Mangalorean Viani Antonio D’Cunha Represents India at Turkey Olympiad

Mangalore, Oct 26: Viani Antonio D’cunha, who has been chosen for Indian Oil Corporation’s Elite Scholarship because of his splendid achievement in various chess tournaments, is participating in the World Under-16 Chess Olympiad – 2011. The Olympiad is being held at Istanbul, Turkey from October 24.

Viani, who hails from the city, will be a part of a team that will represent India at the said Olympiad. Other members of the team are, Sahaj Grover and Prince Bajaj from New Delhi, Shardul Gagare from Maharashtra, and Girish Kaushik from Karnataka. The Olympiad will be held between October 24 and November 1.

Vishweshwaran from Chennai has been appointed as the official coach of the team by All India Chess Federation. He will be accompanying the team. A total of 28 teams will be fighting it out for the top honours at the Olympiad.
