Mangaluru: New block of St Agnes Hostel inaugurated

Mangaluru, Jun 26: A new block of the St Agnes Hostel was blessed and inaugurated on June 24.

Fr Walter D’Souza, parish priest, St Sebastian Church, Bendore blessed the new block. Sr Maria Shamita, provincial superior, Apostolic Carmel - Karnataka province cut the ribbon and inaugurated the building. Michael D’Souza, a well-known philanthropist from Mangalore residing in Dubai, the chief guest unveiled the plaque. He is also the major contributor of the new block.

Michael and his wife were honoured for their generous contribution by Sr Maria Shamita, the provincial superior, and Sr Maria Roopa, the superior of St Agnes convent. Micheal in his address encouraged the hostellers to make the best use of the facilities and achieve great heights. Sr Shamita, the provincial superior, expressed her happiness on obtaining a state-of-the-art hostel building.

Oswald Veigas, the architect, Sunil Kumar the engineer, Suddesh Dandakeri, the contractor, Vincent Pinto, the electrician were honoured for their contribution in building the new block. Naveen D’Souza, the corporator was also honoured for his help in getting the licenses and certificates for the hostel.

Sr Rose Agnes, the assistant provincial superior, Sr Julie Ann, the provincial Secretary and Sr Lydia Fernandes, the former superior of St Agnes convent joined the programme. Fr Valerian, Stephen Pinto, Oswald Rodrigues and family members of Michael D’Souza were also a part of the programme. All the Hostellers were present for the inauguration of the new block.
