Pakistani MP Jailed for Graft


Islamabad, Oct 27 (IANS): A Pakistani parliamentarian has been jailed for three years for corruption.

The Peshawar High Court Wednesday convicted Zaffar Baig Bhittani, an independent member of the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

He was found him guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to three years? rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.5 million, Dawn reported.

His property will also be confiscated.

The court observed that Bhittani possessed property worth Rs.39.981 million whereas his legitimate earning was Rs.1.7 million in salary and Rs.2.5 million in bonds.
