Puttur: Compound wall collapses on house, inmates escape providentially

Puttur, Jun 27: Several incidents of wall collapses have been reported in the taluk due to incessant rains. A compound wall collapsed on the house of Majid, a resident of Bannur, in the early hours of Thursday June 27. Children who were in deep sleep were trapped under the pile of earth but were rescued in time by locals.

Mud from the adjacent house’s compound wall collapsed, burying the house of Majid. The debris fell on the room where Majid and his children were sleeping, causing their house to partially collapse. The children were trapped under the mud, but other family members managed to pull them out and rescue them.

The loss is estimated to be over Rs 10 lac. City municipality president Fatima Johara, P G Jagannivasa Rao, municipal commissioner Madhu S Manohar, R I Chandra Nayak, and other officials rushed to the spot. Locals and city municipality workers cleared the mud.
