Mangaluru, Jun 28: Sangeet Bharati is organising a special musical programme 'Raag Parichay' featuring vocal recital and explanatory talk on rare and less popular raagas in Hindustani classical music on June 30 in Dhyanamandir of Sharada College, Mangaluru.

This is a rare and unique programme. Ratheendra Das Gupta, Manasa Shastri and Nagakiran Nayak Harekala will sing the rare and less popular raagas. They will be accompanied by Dr Sagar Bharath on the Tabla and Pt Vyasa Murthy Katti on the Harmonium.

Besides, the Hindustani classical music doyen Pt Vyasa Murthy Katti will present a detailed explanation on the richness, the rise and fall, the style of these raagas. Thereafter, he will answer audience queries.

The programme has been organised with a view to popularise the rare raagas. This is a golden learning opportunity for music lovers, students and teachers of Hindustani music and many others, said Prof Narendra L Nayak the vice president of Sangeet Bharati Foundation. 

The popular raagas are commonly heard everywhere, but there are many raagas that people do not hear. However, these raagas are rich and beautiful. It appears as though their use is limited to music classrooms. Hence this programme has the ambitious mission of transforming these raagas into popular raagas, said Prof Narendra L Nayak. He also called upon teachers, students, and all Hindustani music lovers to make best use of this opportunity.
