Bantwal: Activists Oppose Deepavali Celebrations by Christians

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Oct 28: After a few alleged activists of the Sangh Parivar opposed the holding of public celebration of Deepavali at Allipade village in the taluk on Thursday October 27, tension prevailed for some time. Allipade unit of Indian Catholic Youth Movement had made arrangements to celebrate Deepavali there.

Guests from three communities, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian, were invited for the function as guests. The function was organized near Allipade bus stand. It transpired that a few persons, who claimed themselves to be activists of the Sangh Parivar, opposed the celebration. This gave rise to tense moments.

After the information reached the policemen, Anil Kulkarni, circle inspector of police here, led a team of police personnel to the site of the function. The policemen controlled the situation and facilitated the concerned to go ahead with the celebration without any hitch. The policemen said that the controversy was settled on the spot.

LOL! The irony. My best diwali memory is of 2007 - bursting crackers with college friends in the dead of the night along with a bonfire. Guess where? At Bantwal (modankap, my friend's house!)..! And 4/5 of us were Christians...nothing happened then..why are these guys objecting NOW!? India is (or is supposed to be) a forward moving, progressive society. Incidents like these are nothing but black holes on India's pluralism.

The Guru, Mangalore i fully agree with your comments. Those people can be sangh parivar in disguise, but our commentators dont think before commenting and our media channels are waiting for such news. The problem creators can be the local goondas because everyone knows that when something goes wrong in Mangalore the blame will go to sangh parivar first. So those people are trying to take the advantage of this. And our commentators who are sitting in gulf are always waiting for such news to blame against sangh parivar and BJP. Also the most of the commentators blaming here doesnt have the basic idea of RSS at all.

Festivals are good. But while celebrating the festival, are we remembering the less priviledged people of our own society? Some gift to them like sweets, fire crackers etc. will give them some smile in them for the feast. If there is a will, there is a way.

When we are young it's true we had also enjoyed to celebrate hindu festivals like diwali/ganesh chaturithi/navratri in our neighbourhood. It's really colorful to see mumbai during festive season.

    Mr.Shahnawaz Kukkikutte/Mangalore,

It's nothing wrong what is said by Harsha. We should accept what is correct. Our religion are having only two festivals like easter/x'mas for christians and ramdaan/bakri-eid for muslims.

    Mr Harsha/Mangalore.

Why any muslim or christian should celebrate Ganesh or Navarathri when its not there in their religous belief??? Same way fanatics like you dont fast for 30 days during Ramadan and dont celebrate Bakrid, Good Friday, Christmas. But in India every one gets holidays for any festivities of any religion as we are a united secular country. We all respect each others religous beliefs and feelings... Since hindu festivities outnumber those of muslims and christians, we get more holidays in a year. We enjoy hindu festivals as they are colourful and one can see more impact of these celebrations as these are celebrated by my hindu brothers who are 80% of our populace. At the same time you can feel the impact of muslim festivities in muslim dominated areas of our land. If you visit Kinnigoli, you shall find greater impact on the festivities of christian festivals as christians are in dominance there and they are well off in that area... Dont try to devide the community on the basis of beliefs and dont sing the mantra of BJP and RSS. If you believe in the devision, I request you to leave mangalore for peace loving people and go back to your state, preach and practice in what you believe...Height of ignorance and hypocrisy....

These people are like those kids who refuse to dance while joyful music is played and refuse to cry when sorrowful music is played. It is clear that their intention is not to oppose the celebration per se but to somehow disturb others and stay in the focus. This is amply clear from the fact that on one hand they criticise Christians for forceful conversion(Which is a nonsense thought) and on the other they disturb when we try for communal harmony and brotherhood. During Diwali, it is this bad or evil element that we should try to rid of our society.....THE BAJRANG DAL....

Shame on these activists. In the name of religion they are dividing the people so that they can rule the country. They do not wantto heal the wounds. They want to keep on scraping the wounds so that people will remain aggressive and fight with each other. They do not want Indians to unite which will be detrimental to their ulterior motive. If all Indians, irrespective of their religion, unite, this organisation will not have any place on the earth to stand on. Diwali is the festival of India. When we were celebrated Diwali with our Hindu friends and it was joyous occassion. In our office, all Indians irrespective of being, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, wished each other Happy Diwali and shared the sweets. Seeing this other people from nationalities Arabs, Emaratis, Europeans wished all Indians. AT the time of one of natural calamities in India, Indians in UAE, all joined together to gather aid, food clothing for the affected people back. Nobody did it on religion basis. What this shows is that the "Indian" brotherhood is in our bloods and above the religion. Though away from the country all Indians are united here, why should this organisation stop Indians from uniting and celebrating in India itself. As all the readers said below, it only shown the parivars ulterior motive of divide and rule at any costs

Anyone including Christians can celebrate festival of lights. Deepavali is not just the festival of lights. It is the festival of a Hindu deity and the event celebrating deepavali is a specific religious event which is part of hindu mythology.

While we need to respect Hindus and their festivals, the Christians handbook and manual 'The Bible' expressly forbids Christians from observing festivals and rituals that are non-Christian. Before we venture into celebrating other religions, our people should first try to learn what our faith is all about ... Isn't it?? To have a 'better relationship'with my neighbour (which obviously is not working - even after celebrating Deepavali!!) do I ignore and reject the express word of my God??

THOSE WHO OPPOSE THIS CELEBRATION, AND ESPECIALLY BY PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT RELIGIONS ARE THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO LIVE IN DARKNESS. Let us not make a issue of it as the police solved the contravercy on the spot. For two days when we had the Mass at St. Catherine's home at Andheri West, the whole altar had additional diyas and the priest wore the vestments with AUM written on it. I was told that this is done every year. We should appreciate the fact that when bonus is given during Deepavali, it is given to everyone in a organisation. When the shopping centre offers heavy "discounts", it is offered to everyone, irrespective of their religion. So why restrict someone from celebrating it? May God dispel the darkness from the minds of people, so that they may see the Light.

Sangh Parivar dosen't want Hindu's Muslims & Christians to be United, If all religion comes together they cannot rule, The same old British policy "DIVIDE & RULE". I hope people will understand the main agenda of Sangh Parivar.

What a cheap mentality by the activists........tomorrow they may even come out with a stirr saying that christians and muslims should not breathe the same air.........I dont say these people reflect the mentality of all mangaloreans......a few antisocial activists like these spoil the name of the society and deserve to be punished...........most of such activists are uneducated buffs falling prey to political motives.......good education is a must for our society to improve.

This is the hight of fanatism. In India, our constitution has given us right to celebrate any festival of their choice. I have seen many Hindus are celebrating Christmas. But no Christian has opposed this. God only should give light to these fanatic people. Today I saw a news with photo in Udayavani where two christians from Europe married according to Hindu rituals. But nobody opposed this. This shows the broadness in the heart. There should be harmony among Indians so that no religious fightings will occur in future.

A bunch of crazy and rotten street dogs that barks at each and every thing.....Sangh parivar members who disrupt peace and hijack communual harmony must be send to Nicobar islands and must be beheaded there... Even if you celebrate you are in trouble and if you dont celebrate then too you are in trouble.. Whats the meaning of live and let live to these junks......This is transofrmation achieved by BJP and parivar members during their 3 years rule of our state... Nowe its high time to vote them out before we reach further polarisation and further devision....Are these protectors of their festivals???????
