T20 World Cup: Team India trounces South Africa in nail-biting final, ends trophy drought

Bridgetown (Barbados), June 29 (IANS): South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls to win the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. But Hardik Pandya’s 3-20 and Jasprit Bumrah’s 2-18 helped an unbeaten India clinch their second title in the shortest format with a seven-run win at the Kensington Oval on Saturday.

Talismanic batter Virat Kohli stepped up to end his lean run with a 59-ball 76 to help India post a competitive 176/7.

In reply, South Africa were very much in sight to chase down the total. But Hardik taking out Heinrich Klaasen propelled India to come back into the match and emerge victorious to end a long 11-year global trophy drought as they restricted South Africa to 169/8.

Brief Scores: India 176/7 (Virat Kohli 76, Axar Patel 47; Keshav Maharaj 2-23, Anrich Nortje 2-26) beat South Africa 169/8 (Heinrich Klaasen 52, Quinton de Kock 39; Hardik Pandya 3-20, Jasprit Bumrah 2-18) by 7 runs.

It's horrendous to note here that even when our Indian team wins, some dumb wits resort to political mudslinging and belittling their efforts. Some who have played some maidan level cricket too talk like pundits suiting their political affiliations🤦🏻‍♂️making it obvious that they cannot digest India's Victory because Modi is our PM!! Heights of frustration levels. Get well soon such folks. In the end it is Our Country 's win. Rejoice.

So as per your Chaddi logic India’s 1983 World Cup victory should be completely dedicated to then PM Indira Gandhi though she has not done that stupid and cheap publicity stunt anyway to steal players glory and limelight for self elevation and glorification. FYI, nobody here is blaming the payers but criticizing those who are taking undue credit because they don’t have their own achievements and accomplishments.

@ G R PRABHUJI, 5 days cricket test matches are so boring , in the present fast world who has patience to sit in front of the TV. (Its like Old man is lying on the bed for time pass) T20's have totally revolutionized cricket Erena with all sorts of emotions, excitement, breath taking moments of over enthusiastic and tense moments. My school days I used play tennis ball but never involved in hard ball cricket. I had shock when I lost my front two teeth where I was doing fielding. I am am ardent cricket lover and still enjoy. I enjoy IPL too.🏏

Cricket is a game of foot work. If you keep your foot in correct line, than only one can play correctly. Now sometimes I think ,,it's a cricket or Baseball while I am watching in TV.

I was as a cricketer in our friends circle still they call me cricketer Prabhuji, But I have stopped playing since I retired from bank, but I have stoped watching cricket in TV also, because present day cricket is playing just like Baseball. No foot, work only hitting. The test match also from 5 days, it is finishing within 2 to 3 days. Only betting going on. Very bad. Those who have don't know about are in charge of cricket, like Jay Shah, one CongressMP , according to me cricket is dead only betting is alive.

Both the finalists played brilliant cricket providing wholesale entertainment to cricket lovers across the world. Confidence and conviction that they will win were the crucial factors in team India's magnificent win. The only difference between these two teams was that the Indians handled pressure a tad better than the South Africans. Congratulations to both the teams !

Surprisingly without support of Minorites in the team in recent Lok Sabha election BJP won and even lifted World Cup Trophy. Thanks to people sitting outside and watching ongoing during election and match who unanimously supported the both without one's knowledge. Gautam Gambir will be the next coach. People who introduced upgraded cricket while watching 'Gilli-Danda' in Bharatvarsha are kept out one more time.

Credit goes to none other than Shri Narendrabhai Modiji...a spirit endorsed same like by cricket team. Actually, credit should be given to Axar Patel who changed the whole sceanario. Nodoubt even South African players are also played well. We lost hope when South African needed 36 runs in 30 balls. Bumrah's first knock-out made much impact. Earlier South African players are one of best players in the world inspite of banned for many years. Some players are also playing during Kerry Packer's tournament. I used to watch enjoying while playing by West Indies team much now not in much form. To me it seems Virat Kohli was much concentrate to fill his record first rather than after team work.Anyhow by luck and fluke India won. Victory will be celebrated in the parliament along with our PM. People who bet heavily on indian team are now much of relief.

Backbone of your leader has been broken by people since 2014 elections to 2024 elections slowly breaking his every bone in every successive elections. So, India won because he was going down yet he is trying to breathe above the water by basking in team India’s glory. Next elections he will be cremated once for all then india will shine even more.

What is this ‘Vishwas ?!?!?!?….What a cheap statement you have made stealing the limelight of all the efforts and hard work of our talented men in blue had put up in this T20 WC, without loosing a single game from match 1 till Final is no joke. How easily you mentioned "Anyhow by luck and fluke India won" just saying anything with your tongue without bone is absolute shame for you being an Indian. Then as you said "Victory will be celebrated in the parliament along with our PM" is on later stage. Had you witnessed the Joy of victory by every individual Indian team member, management, staff and all the associates, even the other team legends were enjoying the victory lap with Team India. You will never know the importance of this joy of our Victorious Men in Blue. Kholi was not focusing to achieve records, he played as an anchor as per the need of the game, saving his wicket gave us a total to defend and lift this T20 WC, you really know nothing about this game.

Till AXAR patel hit his first 6, India was in danger position of Losing 3 important wickets who could score minimum 50 runs.means shortage of 150 runs against powerful South Africa with so many Hitters.KOHLI was helpless on nonstricking end scaring of losing Wicket. But after that Kohli also Agressive.Wonderful catch by Suryakumar yadav at Boundary at Right time, which if slipped 6 Runs to SA.credits to GREAT COACH -sri Rahul Drawid.
