Beltangady, Jun 30: Police have arrested Naveen Kanyadi, a BJP worker and a close aide of MLA Harish Poonja, after a CCTV footage of him assaulting a woman in her tailoring shop in Ujire went viral on social media.
Naveen Kanyadi and the woman, who owns the tailoring shop, have known each other for many years and had financial dealings. It is alleged that Naveen assaulted the woman over a financial dispute.

Although the assault occurred two days ago, the woman did not initially file a complaint with the police. However, after the video of the assault went viral, she lodged a complaint with the Beltangady police. In her complaint, she stated that Naveen had taken Rs 7 lac from her and assaulted her when she asked him to return the money.
The Beltangady police have registered a case against him under sections 354, 447,504,506 of IPC and are investigating the incident further.
