Bengaluru, Jul 1: Even as the entire country is getting ready to face the three new criminal codes, which are being brought into force with effect on July 1, Monday, the Congress government has announced its strong opposition and its decision to bring amendments.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil, who addressed the media persons in Vidhana Soudha on Monday, said the Narendra Modi regime had hurriedly rushed through the new criminal codes just before the elections without allowing a discussion in parliament and respecting the views of the opposition.

Patil said the Modi regime had completely failed to uphold the Indian values and some historical ideals.

The Union Home Minister had written to the Chief Minister inviting suggestions on the three draft laws and on the request of the Chief Minister a committee under the chairmanship of the Law Minister, Law Department Secretary and a retired High Court judge as members to study the three laws.

The minister said the Committee had submitted a comprehensive report with several suggestions, which were duly submitted to the Centre. But the Modi regime has not bothered to respond to most of the suggestions and has implemented its draft as it were.

The Law Minister said the State Government will completely review the three criminal codes and has decided to bring amendments, he declared.

The three new criminal codes are: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaces the 126-year-old Criminal Procedure Code, and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharaitya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which replaces the 151-year-old Indian Evidence Act.
