Mangaluru, Jul 1: Yenepoya Medical College Hospital Deralakatte celebrated National Doctor's Day at the hospital on July 1. As part of the ongoing silver jubilee celebration of Yenepoya Medical College, the day was organised to honour and recognise the outstanding contributions of the medical fraternity in shaping a healthy community.
The hospital took this opportunity to honour the services of three esteemed doctors, Dr Muralikrishna Irwathraya and Dr Sudesh K Derebail, whose dedication to patient care and community health has been exemplary and Dr M S Moosabba, principal, Yenepoya Medical College who has been dedicated not just to patient care, but also to shaping the next generation of medical professionals through academics.
The event began with invoking the blessings of the almighty by Nisar. Nelvin Nelson, deputy manager, YMCH welcomed the gathering.
In his keynote address Dr Nagaraj Shet, assistant medical superintendent credited the doctors for the success and achievements of the hospital in responding to the healthcare requirements of the community by offering quality super-specialty care at affordable cost, and thus treating over 15000 patients completely cashless under various government and semi government schemes,.
“The Sympathetic, highly skilled doctors; ‘healing hands’ of the hospital are instrumental in the extension of the hospital’s healthcare services scope beyond the Coastal Karnataka to the entire Karnataka State, northern Kerala regions and borders of Goa and Maharashtra. Recognising the ‘Caring Heart’ of YMCH’s doctors, the Government of Karnataka has selected Yenepoya Medical College Hospital as a hub for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District for the ‘Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Sanjeevini Yojane’.” he said. Further, he introduced the guests of honour to the gathering.
Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji, registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) was the chief guest of this event presided by Dr Habib Rahaman A A, medical superintendent, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital. The guests of honour for the event were Dr M S Moosabba, principal, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Muralikrishna Irwathraya, medical director, Sri Krishna Group of Hospitals, and Dr Sudesh K Derebail, former-deputy chief medical officer, former-medical officer TB control, PHC Amblamogaru.
Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji stated that the efforts and dedication of the paramedical staff are of great assistance to the doctors in providing quality and timely treatment to the patients, and thus they should be celebrated and recognised alongside doctors on this day.
Dr M S Moosabba addressed the gathering on this occasion and remembered the legendary Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, in whose honour the National Doctors Day is celebrated in India on July 1 every year.
Dr Murali Krishna thanked the hospital for the recognition and stated, “This recognition is for the Geographical region of Kakinje.”, as he is the only healthcare provider in the rural region. He explained the challenges of the healthcare setup in rural regions due to the infrastructure and connectivity issues, lack of awareness, and resistance to treatment. He further thanked Yenepoya Medical College Hospital for helping reduce the financial burden of the patients as it is the only institution that has helped through various schemes and programmes, providing quality care to his patients.
Dr Sudesh K Derebail began by thanking the institution for recognising and felicitating a person from public health as it provides a platform for them to bring important issues to the forefront. He recalled the difficulties and hurdles faced by Ablamogaru PHC being the only functioning PHC during the 1st wave of the pandemic. He further reiterated the need for a committed and responsible outlook to treat patients.
The guests of honour Dr M S Moosabba, Dr Muralikrishna Irwathraya, and Dr Sudesh K Derebail were felicitated at the event. Tokens of appreciation were presented to Meralda Jewels for their unwavering support of the Doctor’s Day programme.
Dr Habib Rahaman thanked the doctors for their service towards the highest quality of patient care in the hospital and for building trust. He encouraged them to work tirelessly towards patient satisfaction and delight.
Muhammed Sabith, deputy operations officer, YMCH proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Abhay Nirgude, dean, faculty of medicine, Dr Prakash Saldanha, vice-principal, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Ashwini Shetty, director, directorate of extension & outreach, department heads, faculty, nursing staff, and others were present at the event.
