Mangaluru, Jul 3: The Dakshina Kannada District Panchayat Higher Primary School in Gandhinagar, Mannagudda, saw a heartfelt Vanamahotsava celebration organized by Samarasya Mangaluru Vedike and the Karavali Halumatha Kuruba Sangha on July 2. The event, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and the importance of government schools, was conducted with simplicity and sincerity.

The ceremony was inaugurated by planting a sapling by Prakash B Salyan, former member of the Mangaluru City Corporation, and Mohammad Kunjathbail, former deputy mayor.

“In recent years, there has been a concerning trend of government schools closing down. It is crucial for us to pay attention to this issue. We need to give due importance to government schools. To highlight the importance of environmental care and to instill environmental awareness in children, we decided to organize Vanamahotsava at a government school this year. Students should commit to growing more trees and plants to foster a greater sense of environmental responsibility among the community,” said Manjula Nayak, President of Samarasya Mangaluru Vedike.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Manjula Nayak, Chandrappa B K (president of the Karavali Halumatha Kuruba Sangha), Arun Kumar (general secretary of the Sangha), Harish Nargund (vice president), Yamanappa Muttal Geri (secretary), Manju Maddi (treasurer), Samarth Bhatt (member of Konkani Sahitya Academy), along with other notable attendees such as Vidya Shenai, Malini Nayak, Yogesh Nayak, Neet Sharan, Rajesh Devadiga, and Sanjana Chalavadi.
