Udupi, Jul 7: A felicitation ceremony for doctors was held at Adarsha Hospital, Udupi, on the occasion of Doctors' Day under the patronage of Adarsha Charitable Trust on July 7.
Dr Vidya Kumari, deputy commissioner of Udupi, in her inaugural address, said, “Doctors save lives. The two fields identified in society are doctors and teachers—one saves life and the other shapes life. Doctors have a social responsibility and also a responsibility to give a human touch. We have 90 percent of doctors who give a motherly touch.”
Speaking about dengue, Dr Vidya Kumari added, “Today we are facing the challenge of dengue. In facing this challenge, not only government hospital doctors but also private hospital doctors should help in preventing it. If you have a fever, do not neglect it; please visit the nearby hospital and get proper treatment. When a person is identified in society, it motivates others to become like them. New diseases are emerging in new forms and challenging us.”
Dr I P Gadad, Health and Family Welfare officer of Udupi, appreciated the hospital for taking steps to felicitate government hospital doctors, despite Adarsh Hospital being a private institution. He said, “People can be treated well only when private and government hospitals come together.”
Dr Ashok H, district surgeon at the District Hospital in Udupi, spoke about the spread of dengue, prevention methods, and everyone’s effort in preventing the disease.
Dr G S Chandrashekar, medical director, welcomed the gathering and in his presiding note said, “Doctors are equal to God; they need to be in service 24 hours a day. Sometimes doctors need to sacrifice, especially their personal life. Doctors have social responsibility, and our behavior matters, as many will be following us. In private hospitals, patients have demands. Compared to other countries, medical expenses in India are less.”
The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp and offering a flower by the guests of the day to the portrait of Dr B C Roy.
As a blessing to the occasion, a prayer song was rendered by Manisha and Sahana.
On the occasion, Dr Praveen Kumar Shetty, Brahmavar, Dr Prashant Shatty, Kaup, Dr Ramachandra Devadiga, Malpe, Dr Anitha S Prabhu, Karkala, Dr Chandra Malkala, Kundapur, Dr I P Gadad, Health and Family Welfare officer, and Dr Ashok H, district surgeon, were felicitated.
