Udupi, Jul 8: Significant flooding was experienced across parts of the district on Monday, July 8, following a heavy downpour. Emergency services were swiftly deployed to rescue students and residents affected by the floods.

Rescue operations were concentrated in Gundibail and areas near Krishna Math. In Gundibail, where rainwater inundated a girls' PG (Paying Guest accommodation), students were promptly evacuated. The fire emergency team also assisted several residents who were trapped by rising floodwaters.

Several roads in the district were submerged due to the persistent rain. Low-lying areas saw water levels rise dramatically, flooding fields and homes. The streets were filled with water, creating a situation where drainage systems, rivers, and roads became indistinguishable.

The artificial flooding in Gundibail posed a significant danger, leading to immediate rescue efforts by the fire emergency team. Many residents who were confined to their homes due to the flooding were successfully evacuated.

In Udupi, numerous houses found themselves surrounded by water as the streets filled up. The Udupi city municipal commissioner visited Gundibail to inspect the flood-affected area and assess the situation.
