Kadaba: Ullal qazi Koorat Tangal laid to rest at Koora

Kadaba, Jul 9: Assayad Fazal Koyamma Tangal Al Bukhari (64), widely known as Koorat Tangal, passed away on Monday at his residence in Ettikulam, Kannur district, Kerala.

Sources reported that Tangal was preparing to travel to Ullal for the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new hostel building for Syed Madani Shariat College students, scheduled for Monday evening, when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Koorat Tangal is survived by his wife, one son, and four daughters. Born in 1960 at Tangal House in Naloorapatil Madathil, Ettikulam, he was the son of Marhoom Shikhuna Taazul Ulaima Assayad Abdurrahman Kunhikoya Al Bukhari Tangal, renowned as Ullal Tangal. After completing his SSLC, he received a Madani degree in 1988 from the Arabic College of Ullal Syed Madani and worked as a Mudarris in the same college for three years.

Koorat Tangal was a member of the All Kerala Jamayathul Ulaima Centre Mushawara and chief secretary of Kasargod Deliya Jamiya Saadiya. He served as qazi of Ullal following his father’s death in 2014, having previously been the assistant qazi.

Fazal Koyamma Tangal transformed the remote village of Koora in Kadaba taluk. Starting his service there in 1991, he established the Fazal Educational Centre and significantly developed the village, which came to be known as Koorat. At the age of 21, he began serving as Khateeb of Koora and worked tirelessly to improve the area. After his father’s death, he served as qazi for more than 100 mohallas and was the chief secretary of the Taazul Ulaima Education Centre founded in Ettikulam.

Koorat Tangal’s mortal remains were kept for public viewing until the afternoon at Ettikulam, then brought to the campus of Ullal Juma Masjid and Syed Madani Dargah in Ullal. Thousands paid their last respects before he was buried at midnight in Koora of Kadaba.

Minister for housing and minorities welfare and Wakf, Zameer Ahmed Khan, expressed his condolences, stating, “Koorat Tangal always worked for communal harmony. His death is a void that cannot be filled. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant the strength to his followers to bear his untimely demise.”
