Bangalore: Advani's Anti-Corruption Yatra Enters Scam-hit Karnataka

People Brave Rain to Hear Advani Blast UPA's Corruption

Bangalore, Oct 30 (IANS): Thousands of people late Sunday braved a heavy downpour in Bangalore to cheer senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani as he blasted the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government over corruption.

"I have not seen such a corrupt government in the country," Advani said addressing a public meeting as part of his nation-wide anti-corruption tour - Jan Chetna Yatra.

He made a passing reference to the scandals rocking his party government in the state without taking the name of jailed former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, arrested in two corruption cases.

"We will not compromise on corruption in our party's governments. As soon Lokayukta (ombudsman) gave the report, action was taken," he said.

Yeddyurappa, the party first chief minister in south India, quit July 31 after the then Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde, in his July 27 report on illegal mining, recommended his trial for graft in the scam.

Advani said: "The new chief minister (D. V. Sadananda Gowda) is going in right direction and hope he will give good administration." Gowda assumed office Aug 4.

Advani said he considered the cash-for-vote scandal that rocked the parliament in 2008 greater scandal than the 2G spectrum allocation scandal.

On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.

Manmohan Singh sought the vote following the withdrawal of support from the Left parties protesting the civil nuclear agreement with the US.

"The Congress used all its members and allies to buy votes and no Congressman can say that he/she is innocent," Advani asserted.

He hailed the three BJP Lok Sabha members who displayed the cash in the house as "heroes".

Congress Stages "Go Back Advani" Protests, 500 Arrested

Bangalore, Oct 30 (PTI): More than 500 activists of the opposition Congress were taken into custody today after they held protests in the city and parts of Karnataka against the anti-corruption yatra of BJP leader L K Advani.

KPCC President G Parameshwara was among the arrested at the old airport road when a group of Congress activists led by him staged protest demanding "go back Advani".

The Congress workers, sporting masks of jailed BJP leaders including former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, G Janardhana Reddy, Katta Subramanya Naidu and S N Krishnaiah Setty, raised slogans against the ruling party's government and corruption allegations it has been facing.

Police arrested more than 60 congress workers near the Mahatma Gandhi statue while they were on their way to stage protest. At the Freedom Park, the Congress held a protest demonstration.

Similar protests were held in parts of the State, according to reports reaching here.
Meanwhile, Advani reached Bangalore by flight here and was given a rousing reception by BJP workers. He was received at the airport by Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda and BJP State unit President K S Eswarappa, among others.

Advani will be launching his first leg of "Jan Chetana Yatra" in Karnataka with a public rally at the National College grounds, for which police have thrown tight security cover.

Advani's yatra will visit coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada for two days from tomorrow.

Wondeful speech by LKAdvaniji. Also his mention of "need to be clean ourself before poitining corruption in othrers" is timely advice for the local BJP leaders. Can the congress leaders have the guts to do the same? By any chance Shila Dixith can resign? Can Chidu and Sonia can be interogated by CBI for 2G? More over the charges against local BJP leaders are from private parties (Except Lokayuktha) where as all the charges against UPA ar from government agencies like CAG, SC etc. So BSY would porve innocence and come out clean after all legal processing.

Both parties are thieves. We people are fool to vote them. 80% of Politicians are so old they are dead-man walking. Feels shame when our ministers meet other country ministers. Our Indian President is useless, Look at Advani he needs to be in hospital and also our PM Manmohan Singh.
I don't support both these parties, They have never thought of us at all. So much of slavery still existing in India, So much people are hungry, Women/Childrens are getting raped, Robbery, Murders, Not even proper food/water supply from one state to another state. Also the good thing about Advaniji is that he never talks in singular while talking about other politicians irrespective of all the political parties. He gives respect to politicians of all the political parties in speech. The congress and other parties have to learn this from Advaniji. Now our congress support commentators will start giving negative comments.

It’s really ridiculous to see Advani is taking this so called Anti-Corruption Yatra, when his own party is at the forefront of corruption. Crusade against corruption should have started much earlier than now. Instead of shielding for long Yeddyurappa he should have told him to quit long before and taken a Yatra for that. The fun is he says “no differences in his party against corruption...” Because it is already corrupted with the corruptions and corrupt ministers so there can’t be any difference. Jai ho!!!

Your news media is excellent. My question is how dare Advani speak about UPA governments corruption when BJP's Minister are in prison, including the first CM of BJP in Karnataka who has broken the record of corruption in India's history. Let the BJP and Advani keep quiet and listen to the public of Karnataka what they say about Advani, BJP, BD and RSS. I am praying that the Karnataka's present government should fall down like the Jerico Tower in the Bible days by Prayers and Praising our Living Almighty God. It will surely fall and I am constantly praying for that. May God bless you for giving us the correct news.

The spelling of surname 'Shetty' as it appears with reference to minister 'S.N.Krishnaiah' presently in the Central Jail in the outskirts of Bangalore, in the above news item - and very often in other English newspapers too - would give a wrong impression that the roots of the gentleman are from erstwhile South Kanara origin, which may not be correct. I think it ought to be spelt as 'Setty'. Could someone enlighten.
