Mangalore: Nellu's Comedy Play Wins Mickmax Drama Contest

Mangalore, Oct 31: Young playwright, actor, director Nellu Permannur's short Konkani play 'Baab Bodhlana' bagged the first prize in comedy drama contest organised in memory of the late Mick Max by Paradela association from Bejai. The Permannur parishioners staged the drama with Nellu in the lead role.
The two-day event which began on Saturday October 29 concluded with three other comedy plays and a prize distribution ceremony at the Don Bosco hall on Sunday, October 30 evening.
Cha Fra D'Costa's 'Vishentiche Bhav', directed by Maxim and staged by Bejai parishioners bagged the second prize and Anjelore parishioners' 'Tension Naka Baba' written by Maxim D'Souza won the third prize. The first, second and third place winners received Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs Rs 10,000 as prize money respectively along with certificates and trophies.
Three plays 'Baab Bodhlana', 'Tension Naka Baba' and 'Yemkondanth Haav' were staged on the second and final day of the competition with full house crowd witnessed the event.
For the prize distribution ceremony Fr Pius Dsouza, superior of Infant Jesus Church Bikkarnakatta was the chiet guest. Hemacharya of Daijiworld Weekly, Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld.com and Augustine Rodrigues, vice-president Bejai parish were the guests of honour.
Paradela honoured senior stage artiste Charles Sequeira for his meritorious service to Konkani stage. Also, ace musician Joel Pereira was felicitated for his efforts in organising the drama contest professionally.
Hemacharya spoke about Mickmax, his contribution to Konkani language and literature as well as his association with Mickmax.
Fr Pius Dsouza congratulated Paradela for their marathon effort in organising the event and encouraging new stage artistes and talents.
Walter Nandalike distributed the prizes.
Denis Monteiro, Aloysius D'Souza and Tony Ruzai were the judges for the two-day event.
Robin, Priya, Gration and Mickmax's brother Walter rendered songs composed by Mickmax during the interval.
Young musicians led by Sanjay Rodrigues provided live music.
Cony Saldanha and Eualia D'Souza compered the event on both days with perfect time management and professionalism.
Oswal Valento, secretary of Paradela proposed the vote of thanks.
