Mangaluru: Police trace missing girl; parents, VHP allege 'love jihad'

Mangaluru, July 10 (IANS): An incident of parents and the VHP alleging ‘love jihad’ after the police traced a missing girl and found her staying with a youth from another community, was reported from the communally-sensitive Dakshina Kannada District in Karnataka on Wednesday.

The father of the girl has lodged a fresh complaint with the Mangaluru Police Commissioner alleging that his college-going daughter was kidnapped and converted by the youth.

The VHP has alleged that it is a case of ‘love jihad.’

According to police, the girl was studying at a private college in Mangaluru and her parents had registered a missing complaint in Pandeshwar police station recently after she went incommunicado.

Police tracked the missing girl and found that she was with a man called Mohammad Ashfaq.

The police checked his background and found that he is already married and has eight criminal cases against him in Vidyanagar police station in neighbouring Kasaragod city in Kerala.

Senior VHP leader, Sharan Pumpwell alleged that ‘love jihad’ is becoming rampant in coastal Karnataka and the Hindu community needs to wake up.

Police said that they would record the woman's statement, and investigate the matter to find out whether she was forced to go with the man or went on her own.

More details are yet to emerge regarding the incident.

I find it hard to wrap my head around IPC (Indian Penal Code), perhaps a Lawyer or a knowledgeable person can help. We have constantly debated the legality of polygamy or bigamy in India and the debate continues. Indian laws says that Polygamy is illegal under Indian IPC. If that's the case how are Muslim and (some men of other religions too) allowed to have up to four wives under their Sharia (Islamic) law. There are some famous non Muslim men in India who wanted to marry more wives, they simply convert to Islam and then have more than 1 wife . This is a joke and IPC should clarify this point, and enforce the law as we have seen many men marry multi wives

Langooji I dont support you.It lies solely by the girls.Any Partys has nothing to do.This or other party act aggressively and girls are hiding in front of them and without any noice they disappear. These girls should realise what and who .They should findout what he is doing and his prehistory .Not simply follow like a lamm. They promise many things .Later once girl is in their hands cant escape. When a girl reaches maturity ,cant do anything.Even parents try to bring them back ,they wont ,and cant many times.Girls should be steady .Now girl should drink what she made
