Daijiworld Impact: Udupi Municipality takes action to repair roads near district hospital

Udupi, Jul 17:  The Udupi City Municipality has swiftly repaired the road from Brahmagiri circle to Ajjerkad district hospital following widespread concern among commuters. The road, asphalted earlier in the summer, quickly developed dangerous potholes, turning it into a hazard zone.

The issue gained attention after local protests and media coverage highlighted the poor quality of the roadwork. Nityananda Volakad, along with villagers and district committee members, organized protests demanding action.

In response, Rayappa, the Municipal Commissioner, arranged for immediate temporary patchwork to address safety concerns. He assured that full re-asphalting would occur after the rainy season, ensuring a more durable solution.

Rayappa emphasised the responsible use of the allocated funds of Rs 43 lakh and warned of strict actions against responsible authorities if necessary. "Taxpayers' money should be used responsibly," he stated.

Nithyananda Volakad, a prominent social worker, acknowledged Rayappa's proactive approach. "I know his quality of work; the roads done under his supervision remain strong for a longer time," Volakad remarked, withdrawing the protests upon assurance of timely repairs.

The repairs have now made the Brahmagiri to District Hospital road safe for travel, marking a positive outcome following community advocacy and media scrutiny. Daijiworld.com had published a detailed report in this connection earlier.

This road was refurbished just before the monsoon, yet within two months of its repair, it has developed potholes. How can a newly repaired road deteriorate so quickly? This situation suggests that there might be issues with the quality of materials used or the workmanship. The contractor responsible for this repair should be held accountable to ensure that future repairs are more durable and effective.

If taxpayers’ money were used in the right places, India wouldn’t have such poor roads today, and so many bridges wouldn’t have collapsed. 🛣️🌉
