Udupi: Neglecting dengue can lead to serious risks - Dr Vidya Kumari

Udupi, Jul 19: “Dengue is not a big disease, but neglecting it can lead to serious risk”, said Dr Vidya Kumari, Udupi deputy commissioner.

Dr Vidya Kumari, in awareness program on dengue fever held in association with District health and family welfare department Udupi, Lions club Udyavar SunShine, Rotary Club Udyavar and Udyavar gram panchayath on July 19, said, “Cleanliness should be prioritized in our surroundings. Special attention should be paid to stagnant water bodies where mosquitoes breed."

Dr Vidya Kumari added, “Dengue is spread through the mosquitoes that bite during the day time. Mosquitoes breed in places like where water stagnates in various places including the shells and tea cups in the surroundings. It is essential to avoid water stagnation. Applying neem oil can prevent mosquito bites. As per the orders of the state government, awareness programs are being conducted in various areas in the district by the administration. Friday is celebrated as a dry day in the district.”

On the occasion few houses were visited in Udyavara gram panchayat and spread awareness of dengue fever.

Ronald Rebello, president, Lions club Udyavar welcomed the gathering, Jeevan D’Souza, president Rotary club Udyavar proposed a vote of thanks, Steven Colaco conducted the programme.

Dr Eshwar Gadad, district health officer, Dr Prashant Bhat, district vector borne disease management officer, Gururaj, Udupi taluk tahsildar, Malathi, president, Udyavara gram panchayat, Ramesh, PDO, Dr Sandeep Shetty, veterinary officer, Muktha Achar, entomologist, Udupi district, Dr Vasudeva, taluk health officer, Dr shainy, Moodubettu health officer, Hariprasad rai, coordinator, District Lions International Federation, officials of health department, gram panchayath members, ASHA workers and others were present on the occasion.
