Mangaluru, Jul 20: St Aloysius Pre-University College hosted an investiture ceremony at the Loyola Auditorium. The event held immense significance as it marked the official induction of the recently elected student council members into their respective roles and responsibilities. During the ceremony, the students took a solemn oath to dedicate themselves to the service of the college and the student community.
Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions inaugurated the investiture ceremony. The inaugural ceremony commenced with a prayer song, followed by lighting of the lamp and a welcome dance.
The principal, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, welcomed the gathering and congratulated the newly elected student council members. He highlighted four significant qualities that are integral to effective leadership such as managing conflict, working together, keeping good relationships and taking initiatives. He also stressed the importance of inclusivity, given the multicultural and multi-religious nature of the campus and concluded his address by invoking divine wisdom to empower the leaders in their service to others.
The principal administered the oath to the president, Ireshkishan Shetty, vice president Jeevan DMello, secretary, Elishia Joan Baptist, joint secretary, Alyson DSilva, cultural secretary of science, Bianca Bambina D’Souza, cultural secretary of commerce and arts, Bhrithi Hegde, sports secretaries, Sandeep Anthony and Simone D’Souza, president of centre for social concern, Venus Wilfred Lewis, president of centre for environmental concern, Shea D’Souza, president of centre for inter-religious harmony, Shriya Rao and all the class representatives and the association secretaries. During the ceremony, the rector honoured the student leaders with badges and sashes.
During his address, Ireshkishan Shetty, the president of the student council, shared how he found inspiration from his predecessors and expressed his pride in being elected as the President. He encouraged the students to remember the motto of the college ‘Lucet et Ardet’ which means ‘It Shines to enkindle’ and dedicate themselves to the service of students.
Fr Melwin Pinto SJ congratulated the student council members and emphasized that true leadership is not about seeking the limelight but rather serving others. Just as the bow steers the ship, a leader gives direction to his team. As student leaders, he encouraged them to learn beyond the textbook. Finally, he congratulated the leaders and wished them a fruitful year ahead.
The finance officer, Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ, the campus minister, Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, the vice principal, Muralikrishna GM and Vilma Fernandes, the dean of commerce and arts, Dr Pradeep M, the dean of science and the student council director, Kiran Shetty and Vandana K C, the student council director were also present on dais.
The event concluded with a thematic dance which conveyed the essential leadership qualities of empathy, delegation, and adaptability. Oshin D’Silva, department of mathematics, compered the programme, while Vandana K C, department of chemistry, proposed the vote of thanks.
Overall, the event served as a testament to the vibrant and supportive community at SAPUC and showcased the college's commitment to providing its students with opportunities for growth and development.
